Usually when people are in an emergency situation they call 911 and wait for a paramedic to arrive. Did you know there are many things you can do to help until they reach you? As a premier First Aid & CPR Training Toronto center, Heart 2 Heart offers an assortment of classes for any emergency situation. Here are a few tips that you can try if you are ever in an emergency!
- Stop the Leak
If you ever see someone with a big injury bleeding profusely it’s best to go over and apply pressure to their wound. Begin by removing any dirt or loose material from the wound. Then find a cloth and wrap it. After, apply constant pressure- applying pressure will stop any external bleeding.
- Cool the Burn
Whenever somebody gets burned, the first thing to do is run cool water for up to 20 minutes over the burn. Never put ice over a burn because it can give you frostbite. This is just as bad as a regular burn and can cause just as much tissue damage.
- Don’t Be Scared to Use a Defibrillator
When someone’s heart stops beating it’s called a cardiac arrest. AEDs work by sending an electric pulse to shock the heart back into motion. These machines have audio instructions to help guide you in case you come across someone suffering from heart issues, so don’t be scared to use one. You could help save a life!
4.Hold Your Nose
If you ever get a nosebleed the best way to prevent your nose from dripping is to hold the tip of your nose and lean forward. By applying pressure to the tip of your nose you help the blood clot and stop the bleeding.
5.CPR
A great skill to have is CPR. CPR helps the person’s brain remain active if their heart has stopped or they can’t breathe by continuing the circulation of oxygenated blood. If you are untrained give quick chest compressions and avoid breathing in their mouth. CPR is done differently on adults in comparison to children. This is why you should consider taking a class to learn more about providing CPR to different people and in different situations.
