Standard First Aid CPR/AED for Workers

The standard first aid course is available in levels A, C or Basic Life Support (BLS) and complies with the regulations set for most of the provincial workplace regulations. These courses offer valuable knowledge and hands-on training regarding non-life-threatening and life-threatening illnesses and injuries.
The BLS course is available for healthcare providers or professional responders and the level “C” course offers training for baby, child and adult medical situations. The level “A” course is adult only and can be offered upon request. Level A and C are for lay rescuers
In Ontario, the WSIB requires individuals and workplaces to have an employee take the course if there are 5 or more employees working at the same time on the same shift and floor. It’s also important to take into account that more than one worker should have certification for this course in case another certified first-aid worker is on holiday, calls in sick etc.
From a practical perspective, all working environments should have several team members take this course and become certified. This way, an employer will be reassured that his workers will receive quick and knowledgeable care from others in an emergency situation..
First-aid/ CPR courses are mandated in different ways from province to province. Employers must know and follow the regulations in order to ensure a safe work environment for all.
