New Skills, Clearer Learning
The Red Cross First Aid & CPR update introduces practical changes designed to improve confidence and clarity in emergency response. If you’re taking Standard First Aid & CPR C, Emergency First Aid, CPR certification in Newmarket, here’s what’s new:
- Stroke Recognition Upgraded – learners now use the FAST method (Face, Arm, Speech, Time) to identify warning signs faster. “Vision problems in one or both eyes” has been added to the list of stroke symptoms, helping responders recognize strokes earlier.
- Cardiac & CPR Simplified – new hand placement instructions (1–2 hands for children, 2 fingers or thumbs for infants), smoother compression rhythm without scripted counting, and clearer AED guidance on when shocks are appropriate.
- Environmental Illnesses Refined – new section on Trench Foot under cold-related conditions, plus updated heat stroke care — no more full-body immersion; focus now on safe cooling methods like fans, water, and compresses.
- Competency Levels Introduced – each topic now labeled as Awareness (A), Knowledge (K), or Skill (S), helping learners and instructors focus on what’s essential for their course level.
These improvements make Red Cross First Aid and CPR training in Newmarket easier to follow, safer to perform, and more aligned with current science.
